My Vision for Changing Modern Society

What would you change about modern society?

If I could change one thing about modern society, it would be the way we educate our children. The current system is still rooted in outdated methods—focused too much on drilling theory into young minds, much of which is now easily accessible at the fingertips. In a time when even a child can search for and learn almost anything online, we must ask: why are we still teaching like it’s the 20th century?

Instead of overloading students with information they can Google in seconds, we should teach only the most essential theory—and spend the rest of the time on real-life application. In the early years, children should learn life skills that foster independence, responsibility, and pride in their surroundings. They should be taught how to keep their spaces clean and tidy, cook simple meals, wash their clothes, polish their shoes, dust their bags, cover their books, make potting mixes, plant seeds, and engage in social service. These everyday activities are not just chores—they are tools to build character and confidence.

Children should also be encouraged to use their senses—to touch, smell, feel, and identify the things they use daily. Let them hold raw ingredients in their hands—beans, rice, potatoes, herbs—and learn what they are, where they come from, and how they are used. This kind of learning connects them to the real world and helps them develop awareness, mindfulness, and a deeper respect for food and resources.

These skills and experiences should be part of the curriculum and assessed, just like any other subject. This would ease the pressure of written exams and reduce the constant fear of failure that so many children live with. Education should not be about mugging up answers and vomiting them onto an exam sheet—it should be about learning to live.

As students grow, their education should grow with them—shifting toward work-oriented and real-world learning. Let them solve problems, build things, work with their hands and minds together. Let them be prepared not just for jobs, but for life.

Equally important is mental and emotional well-being. Yoga and meditation must be a regular part of school life. These practices help children build calmness, focus, and inner strength. In a world filled with distractions, pressure from home, and stress from school, children are being pulled in too many directions. With no tools to manage this, some turn to harmful habits—drugs, alcohol, even crime.

Yoga and meditation are not luxuries—they’re necessities. They can help reduce anxiety, improve concentration, and build resilience. When children are taught how to be still, to reflect, and to care for their own minds, they grow into stronger, healthier individuals.

Holistic education is not just about academic achievement. It’s about raising human beings who are capable, compassionate, and grounded. If society truly wants to change for the better, it must begin with how we raise and educate our children.
