  • 2 ripe Kerala bananas (Nenthra Pazham/Etha Pazham)
  • 1 cup roasted rice flour (Varutha Appa podi)
  • 2 tablespoons corn flour
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin (small jeera) seeds powder
  • 1 teaspoon black sesame seeds (Ellu)
  • ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar palm sugar (optional)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Oil for deep frying

Peel the ripe bananas and cut them into lengthwise quarters. If they are long, you can also cut them in the middle for more manageable pieces. Overripe bananas like the above are best for this dish.

In a bowl, combine rice flour and corn flour. Add a little water to create a thick paste for dipping the banana pieces.

Add salt, turmeric powder, cumin seeds powder, black sesame seeds, cardamom powder, and brown sugar to the flour paste. Mix thoroughly.

Heat oil in a pan for deep frying.

Dip each banana piece into the batter, ensuring it’s coated evenly.

Carefully place the coated banana pieces one by one into the hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown on both sides.

If there’s excess batter, you can spoon a little into the oil to fry. These leftover bits also make a delicious snack.

Adjust the sweetness according to your preference by adding more sugar or honey to the batter. Honey may not be good to be heated.

Serve the pazhampori warm and enjoy its irresistible flavors.
