Me, Depending on You

How would you describe yourself to someone?

It really depends on who’s asking — and why?

If I’m meeting someone for the first time in a casual setting, I keep it simple. Just my name, maybe where I’m from if it feels relevant. I don’t jump into details unless they ask. And even then, I prefer brief answers. I believe people learn more about you by how you are, not by what you say about yourself. Let them see, not just hear.

But switch the scene to a job interview? That’s a different story. Now it’s time to bring the highlights. I’ll walk them through my background, education, and experience — not just facts, but how those pieces connect to the role I’m applying for. I’ll share what I’m passionate about, what I’ve learned, and what I hope to contribute. It’s not about boasting, just about presenting a clear, confident version of myself.

At the end of the day, I think how we introduce ourselves reflects how much we understand context — and ourselves. I’m not the same “me” in every setting, but I’m always authentic. Whether it’s a handshake or a hiring panel, I speak just enough to invite the right kind of curiosity.

And to be honest? That usually works better than any rehearsed introduction ever could.
