I’ve let go of many things in my life—for the sake of peace, for the sake of others, for the fragile balance that often holds relationships and environments together. At home, at work, in friendships and conversations—I’ve swallowed words, stepped aside, compromised, and chosen silence over being right.
But among all that I’ve released, one thing continues to demand daily attention: my ego.
The ego is subtle. It doesn’t always shout. Sometimes it whispers—insisting on being seen, heard, validated. It convinces me that I must defend myself, prove my point, protect my pride. It disguises itself as self-respect, justice, even righteousness.
And yet, I’ve come to see that ego is often the root of most disharmony. It feeds on comparison and control. It thrives on the illusion that “I” must win. Letting go of it doesn’t mean giving up my identity or becoming a doormat. It means choosing the higher ground. It means recognizing that peace is often more powerful than victory.
But letting go of the ego is not a one-time act. It’s a daily exercise. A quiet surrender. Some days I succeed, other days I don’t. There are moments when the ego rules me—without permission, without warning. In those times, I remind myself: harmony isn’t a weakness, and yielding isn’t losing. It’s choosing something deeper, something steadier.
Letting go isn’t always easy. But it’s the path I return to again and again. For the sake of harmony, for the sake of what truly matters, I keep trying.
