For the One Who Carried Me

Describe a positive thing a family member has done for you.

There are many moments in life when the love and support of family become the anchor that holds us steady. I’ve been blessed with such moments—times when different family members stepped in quietly, selflessly. But one moment shines brighter than the rest, etched into my heart forever.

Years ago, I was involved in a serious road accident that left me bedridden—first for a month in the hospital, then six long months at home. I couldn’t move, couldn’t manage even the smallest of tasks on my own. My son was still a student back then, doing his best to juggle everything, but it was too much for him. And my siblings, though emotionally present, were far away and not in the best of health themselves.

That’s when my eldest sister stepped in—without hesitation, without being asked. She hired a maid to care for me and took it upon herself to pay the wages. It may sound simple, but in that moment, it was everything. It brought me comfort, peace of mind, and the ability to focus on healing. Her act wasn’t just helpful—it was a lifeline. A quiet, powerful act of love that I’ll never forget.

Today, it’s my sister who lies in bed, struggling to recover from a sudden health crisis that turned her life upside down. She had gone in for a routine check-up, but complications spiraled quickly—breathlessness, ICU, a multispecialty hospital stay. There was a moment when we thought we were going to lose her. But she pulled through, and she can’t move without assistance. And yet… she keeps trying.

Every day, she tries to sit up, wishes to walk, to return to life. Her body may be weak, but her spirit is strong—stubbornly strong. She’s a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and limitless generosity. She’s the kind of person who never says no when someone needs her. The kind of person who puts everyone else before herself and did it with grace. She has always been a giver—of time, love, support, and sacrifice.

It’s hard to see her like this, after everything she’s done for others. It’s hard not to question why someone so full of life and goodness is being tested this way. But even in this, she inspires me. Her will to live, her silent prayers, her determination—they remind me of what true strength looks like.

My greatest wish now is simple: I want to see her get back up. I want to see her walk again, smile again, feel the sunlight on her face and know that her journey still has beautiful chapters left to unfold. And I believe—deeply—that it’s possible. That the universe, in all its wisdom and mystery, hears these kinds of prayers. I believe that healing will find her, because people like her aren’t meant to fade quietly.

They’re meant to shine.
