In the year I was born, my family was grappling with the sudden and devastating loss of my eldest brother an year before. He had been pursuing his dreams in a monastery, aiming to become a priest, when an untimely demise shattered our world. The news of his passing at the age of 16 reached us a day late, leaving my parents unable to bid a final farewell to their eldest son. The distance and limited communication of those times only added to the pain, amplifying the sorrow that engulfed our household. They reached the far away place a day after his funeral.

My mother, who had been in and out of hospitals and a medical college, carried the heavy burden of grief. The loss had taken a toll on her health, both physically and emotionally. Swollen and weary, she embarked on a journey of frequent hospitalizations, seeking solace amidst the trials of life.

Unbeknownst to my siblings, my mother was carrying the gift of new life within her. The anticipation of my arrival was veiled in the midst of hospital visits and mourning. After one such hospitalization, my mother returned home not only with the weight of grief but also cradling me, the symbol of hope and renewal.

I was bestowed with a name that echoed the corridors of the hospital, a subtle reminder of the intertwined threads of joy and sorrow that marked my entry into the world. Born after the loss of my brother and following the birth of my sister, an autistic child, I became a beacon of joy in our grieving household. My early childhood days were painted with hues of love and warmth, as I assumed the role of the cherished little queen of the family and my father’s beloved pet.

The year of my birth, though shadowed by tragedy, witnessed the emergence of new beginnings and the resilience of the human spirit. Life, in its intricate tapestry, wove together moments of sorrow and joy, creating a unique chapter in the story of my family.
