What major historical events do you remember?

In 2018, a devastating flood wreaked havoc in Cochin, leaving a lasting mark on the memories of its residents. The torrential rains and rising waters forced people to evacuate their homes, seeking refuge with relatives or in relief camps. I vividly recall the anxiety and fear that gripped our community during those trying times.

My family was fortunate to reside on the top floor of an apartment building, shielding us from the immediate impact of the flood. However, as our neighbors and apartment owners evacuated, my son was overcome by fear, prompting us to leave as well. The streets were deserted, and shops remained closed, leaving us to rely on the limited supply of grains, cereals, and other food items we had in stock.

We found temporary shelter on the third floor of the clinic where I worked. With a kitchen and a dedicated woman to prepare meals for the patients, we managed to secure some sustenance. Three long days passed in that makeshift sanctuary, and we only returned home when the rain subsided slightly. Even though our immediate area was spared from the worst of the flooding, provisions remained scarce, and the sight of submerged shops and houses weighed heavily on our hearts.

The extent of the disaster was truly overwhelming as lower-lying regions and coastal homes bore the brunt of the catastrophe, often losing everything they had. It was a heart-wrenching experience to witness people, including those who were once well-off, suddenly stripped off their possessions and livelihoods. In response to this crisis, my family and I contributed by donating clothing to the relief efforts, aiming to provide some solace to those affected.
