Pranayama Basic Techniques | My Latest Learning Journey

Daily writing prompt
What is the last thing you learned?

The last thing I learned this week is Pranayama, a Yogic breathing technique that, while simple, requires consistent practice and full attention. My son, who holds a Master’s in Human Consciousness and Yogic Science (HCYS), introduced me to the fundamentals of this technique. I’ve only learned the first stage so far, which involves breathing exercises that need to be practiced three times a day, sitting still comfortably on a chair. As someone who is energetic and active, achieving stillness in my mind and body has been a challenge. But I’ve decided to dive in, much like learning to swim, and I’m determined to stick with it.

Pranayama may appear simple on the surface, but it holds incredible potential for healing and maintaining health. If practiced properly, it can help heal various ailments, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being. The challenge, of course, is in the consistency and focus required. For me, learning to sit still and pay attention to my breath has been an eye-opener. As I continue to practice, I realize that health is truly our most valuable treasure—it’s essential to achieving anything in life. This newfound practice has made me more conscious of my health, and I’m excited to continue learning and growing through Pranayama.

In conclusion, I believe Pranayama is a powerful tool for improving both physical and mental health. Although it’s still early in my practice, I already feel its positive effects. The latest key takeaway for me is that health is the foundation of everything we do, and by nurturing it through consistent practices like Pranayama, we can create a more balanced and peaceful life.

  1. Very nice. I’m into Yoga for the last one year and I must say it’s a amazing journey. I learnt so many things, breathing exercises help us in many spheres of tasks that we undertake for e.g. trekking, climbing temple steps and many more. Keep sharing your experiences, I will be glad to read. Thank you 💓

  2. I just began practicing it from Monday. My Guru taught me to breathe from the stomach sitting on a chair with head and chest straight. No force should be applied. Concentrate on breathing chanting Om. I am focusing on taking 100 breaths comfortably without any distractions or thoughts.
